The Research School of Chemistry

is pleased to announce that the

2005 Birch Lecture

"Building and breeding molecules to spy on cells and tumors"

will be presented by Professor Roger Tsien,

University of California, San Diego

at

5.00pm, Tuesday 13th September, 2005

in the Research School of Chemistry Lecture Theatre.

Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Professor Tsien's research interests are in developing chemical strategies for the visualization of biological reactions in living cells, including real-time measurements of calcium levels, multi-colour microscopic imaging, in vivo fluorescent labelling for studies of protein-protein interactions, and single-molecule studies.

Professor Tsien will be presenting two additional lectures on matters relating to:

  1. "Imaging intracellular signal transduction in space and time" 5.00pm,Monday 12th September, RSC Lecture Theatre.
  2. "Hybrid organic/inorganic/genetic approaches for labeling proteins in and on live cells"

5.00pm, Wednesday 14th September, RSC Lecture Theatre.
