A Brief History of Molonglo Mayhem Border Morris
The side was formed in 1992 by Paul and Leslie Carr. Paul and Leslie had recently emigrated to Canberra from the UK, previously being the founding members of Mucky Mountains Morris in St Helens, Lancashire, and previous members of the Earl of Stamfords Morris when it was based in Wilmslow, Cheshire. On arriving in Canberra they discovered that there was an all-male Cotswold side (Canberra Morris Men), and a ladies' North West Clog side (Brindabella Clog Morris) already formed and they joined both sides, according to the appropriate gender. After a while they felt the need to do some Morris dancing together rather than one dancing whilst the other quite literally stood holding the baby (Anita aged 1 year at the time). They therefore started a mixed side (i.e. men and women) with dances mainly from the Welsh Borders, which practised on a night which didn't clash with either of the other two existing sides. And Molonglo Mayhem Morris Border Morris was born.
