ResearchI started my research career studying for an Honours degree with Prof. John White at the Research School of Chemistry, investigating the deformation of myoglobin at the air/water interface. I was then awarded a Rhodes scholarship to the University of Oxford to study for a DPhil in the Thomas group, specialising in neutron reflectometry from surfactant systems at the solid/liquid interface. This was followed by time with Prof. Mathias Lösche at the NIST Center for Neutron Research in the US, developing biomimetic model membranes, and studied the structure and function of membrane-associated proteins, supplemented with studies into other membrane-related systems, including looking at the association of highly-charged ions next to charged lipid layers. Having returned to Canberra as a Research Fellow, I am continuing to follow my interest in biological surface-related problems while also working in materials development. Publications |
