Conditions of Stay

Fee-paying students are required by the Australian Government to enrol as full-time candidates for higher degrees or graduate diplomas. Students must not count on financing their studies either in full or in part by undertaking paid work. There is far more demand for employment than there are openings available. A full-time graduate degree student is permitted to undertake part-time employment up to 6 hours per week, and subject to prior approval, up to 20 hours per week during the academic year. Student Visa holders must apply to the Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs for work rights entitlements if they or their spouse intend working in Australia during their course.

Before applying for an Australian visa, applicants should check conditions of stay with the nearest Australian diplomatic mission.

Payment of Fees

Before applying for an Australian visa, fee-paying students must pay to the University a deposit of approximately A$5,600. A document setting out the University Programs and Fees (including the University's Refund Policy) is sent with the letter of offer. Tuition fees do not include the Overseas Student Health Cover premium. The fees in 2005 for laboratory based PhD and Master degree programs are A$20,400 per annum.

Overseas Student Health Cover

It is a requirement of your visa that you enrol in and maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) each year for the duration of your student visa. The University will automatically enrol you in the OSHC scheme with the university's preferred insurance provider WorldCare Assist. Your OSHC Premium will be charged at the annual rate set by the provider and collected as part of your fees invoice.
