On virtually the eve of the RACI Ball, it is encouraging to note that almost all of the tickets have been sold and that places at this prestigious event are at a premium. Eat your heart out if you have missed out!
Due to time contraints in the office this week our usual editorial is mercifully brief.
CONGRATULATIONS
To the following completing PhD scholars:
Mr Rian Dewhurst (supervisor Professor Hill) submitted his thesis on 19 September 2005: Synthesis and Reactivity of Polymetallic Complexes Containing Tricarbido (C3) Ligands.
Ms Amy Philbrook (supervisor Professor Easton) submitted her
thesis on 21 September 2005:
15N NMR Correlation Spectroscopy: Co-polymerisation in
Melamine- and Melamine Alternative-urea-formaldehyde Resins.
Recent Arrivals
A sincere welcome is extended to the following people who have arrived since our last issue:
Dr Emil Mittag has returned to the School as a Research Officer with Professor Denis Evans' group (Room 223/224, ext. 58339).
Dr Bala Viswanathan from Dalhousie University in Canada has commenced a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Dr Michelle Coote (room E105, ext. 55411).
Michelle Baker has sent us the following quotes on friendship:
Friendship among women:
A woman doesn't come home one night. The next day she tells her
husband she slept over at a friend's house. The man calls his wife's
10 best friends.
None of them know anything about it.
Friendship among men:
A man doesn't come home one night. The next day he tells his wife he
slept over at a friend's house. The woman calls her husband's 10 best
friends.
8 of them say he did sleep over and 2 claim he's still there.
. . . . . .and from Lasse Norén:
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the President his daily briefing. He
concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"Oh No!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"
His staff are stunned at this display
of emotion and nervously watch as the President sits, head in hands.
Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"
