Early Career Chemists' Forum


Held here at the Research School of Chemistry, ANU this day-long forum on Monday 30 November hopes to provide information on those burning questions that early career chemists have ....

a) Determining the stage at which someone should leave the academic environment. (i.e. at what level?)
b) Industry vs Academia - what are the Pros and Cons in each case.
c) The usefulness of postdoctoral positions in a non-academic sense.
d) Writing scientific publications, theses and articles for the general public.
e) Choosing Supervisors and maintaining communication with them.
f) The usefulness of extracurricular activities in job searching.
g) International vs Local Job Prospects - the Pros and Cons.
h) Advice on changing careers and direction.
i) The place of a chemist in the public service and recruitment guidelines.

Confirmed speakers so far include:

Keep an eye out for a complete itinerary, with the subject of the presentation, which should be available soon. Further, morning and afternoon teas as well as lunches will be supplied for all registered attendees. Registration is FREE, but necessary to confirm numbers for catering. Registration closes on November 23rd.
