About the RSC Web Site

History

This Web site was originally designed and created by Dr Harold W. Schranz in early 1994, subsequently revised and upgraded in August 1996 by Melanie Rooney and is now fully maintained on a weekly basis by general and academic staff members of the RSC.

Training for academic and general staff associated with the maintenance of the upgraded RSC Web Site was provided in 1996 by Ms Melanie Rooney who was partly funded by a grant from the Commonwealth Staff Development Fund for "Applying New Technologies for Teaching and Scholarly Communication". This financial assistance and the role of the ANU's Centre for Educational Development and Academic Methods (CEDAM) in obtaining this assistance are gratefully acknowledged.

The site was again revised in April 2004 by Karen Mobbs and Graphic Ark.

Objectives

The objectives of the RSC Core Site are:

1. Promoting the School as an internationally recognised educational and training institution in the field of chemistry.
2. Advertising opportunities for graduate studies (as part of the ANU Graduate School) and postdoctoral training in the School and describing the procedures to be followed.
3. Providing up-to-date information about the research being done at RSC and about the group leaders and research groups.
4. Advertising seminars and courses.
5. Providing a vehicle for initiating communication between potential students, postdoctoral fellows, collaborators and visitors.

Administration

To ensure that the RSC Web Site is up-to-date responsibility for maintenance of the Site has been transferred to members of the School's general staff under the supervision of academic staff. Responsibility resides with the position not the person.

Seminar lists are updated weekly, staff lists monthly, publication lists quarterly, and the Annual Report annually! Other pages, including those announcing scholarship and academic employment opportunities are created ad hoc.
